This is a good, easy to read summary explaining the change in emphasis of managing certain types of chronic pain conditions.
Firstly, it refers to “chronic primary pain” which has now been defined and described by the World Health Organistion (WHO) in their latest International Classification of Diseases Version 11 published in 2019.
It also explains the limitation of pain killers in chronic pain which can often compound a patient’s condition in long term use.
Finally, it describes the move to embrace a psychological approach and specifically refers to the recent UK National Institute of Clinical Excellence recommendation for an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approach.
At ACTforPAIN.com, we believe we are very much at the frontline of the current thinking and approaches to managing many chronic pain conditions.
